Orene Askew (DJ O Show) is a 6'1 "lacrosse-playing, 29-year old female DJ working in a male-dominated industry. Her Mixed Heritage (Afro-Canadian and Squamish First Nation) has exposed her to many genres of music, almost like living between two different worlds. Being different is her competitive advantage....It's a wonderful thing. It's what young people need to embrace more often so that they can also follow their dreams. DJ O Show has wanted to be a DJ since she was 13 years old and says, " There are no words to explain the feeling that I get when I'm playing music that a person hasn't heard in a long time or a tune that they love. Seeing the look in their eyes, dancing, enjoying themselves. The feeling I get knowing that I helped them remember their past and maybe create new memories is incredible."
