Lawrence "Spatch" Mulhall, Executive Director & Programs Manager - Broadway Neighbourhood Centre (BNC)
Since 1995, Spatch (as he is widely known) Mulhall has worked in the heart of Winnipeg’s inner-city developing and implementing programs for at-risk youth. He has designed institutional outreach programs, mentorship programs, sexuality support programs and cultural programming working across the city, working with various agencies. Many of his efforts have been recognized locally and nationally, winning multiple awards, including the Manitoba Attorney General’s Crime Prevention award in 2000 for his work in developing urban sports camps in conjunction with Winnipeg’s Native Alliance. Spatch began working regularly with the Broadway Neighbourhood Centre (BNC) in 2000, and assumed the role of Executive Director and Programs Manager of BNC in 2005, where he oversees operations and conducts more than 40 programs. These include the nationally recognized Just TV multi-media program, focused on prevention and intervention efforts with gang-involved and at-risk youth by providing vehicles of positive self expression through electronic creative arts.
Spatch is also an accomplished musician and has won over 30 music awards, including a Juno singing and playing bass guitar for the Winnipeg band, Eagle & Hawk. He performs widely across North America, including recently at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, as well as throughout Europe.
Spatch is well known throughout the many community and government agencies working to improve lives in the inner-city but is most importantly recognized not by awards, but in hearts of the thousands he has touched through his dedicated public service and artistic excellence.
