October 13, 2015 Aboriginal entrepreneurs to receive new training and support to capitalize on emerging business opportunities in Sioux Lookout area Sioux Lookout, ON (October 13, 2015) – I DO BUSINESS. Inc. and Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre have partnered to deliver a two-year Indigenous Do Business project designed to support the start-up and growth of Aboriginal-owned entrepreneurial ventures in the Sioux Lookout community and surrounding region. Funding for this project has been provided by the government of Ontario’s Aboriginal Economic Development Fund (AEDF). This project will be rolled out in two phases: Phase One: Community-Based Aboriginal Business Research Research will be conducted to identify community assets, economic leakage and corresponding business opportunities. This research will help to identify diversified and viable economic activities for Aboriginal entrepreneurs to focus on in planning and implementing business initiatives in the region. A comprehensive report will be published and available to the public upon completion of this phase targeted for May of 2016. We are seeking Aboriginal organizations and First Nations to collaborate with us on this first phase of the project. Phase Two: Aboriginal Entrepreneurship Training & Procurement Strategy Development In the second phase, we will use the knowledge gained from the research to train Aboriginal individuals to start or grow their business by adding products and services that directly address business gaps and opportunities identified in the first phase. We will also deliver webinars to Aboriginal Organizations / First Nations about best practices and strategies to increase their ability to purchase the products and services they need from Aboriginal Businesses.
