August 23, 2016 Woodville, ON (17 August 2016) – HatsON For Canada™ is a new awareness and fund-development campaign that is supporting the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce Ontario (ACCO) by encouraging Canadians everywhere to get passionate about mental health. The campaign’s goal is to help reduce the stigma that is often associated with mental illness, while raising proceeds to support CMHA in providing mental health resources and services to communities across Canada. HatsON For Canada™ fundraises through the sale of baseball caps sold on its campaign website at www.hatson.ca. For each hat sold, $3 is donated to the local CMHA where the sale was made and $2 is donated to CMHA’s national office. $1 from every sale is donated to ACCO’s Aboriginal Mental Health Campaign. HatsON For Canada’s™ goal is to sell 150,000 hats by the end of 2017, in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary. Founded in 1918, CMHA is a national charity that helps maintain and improve mental health for all Canadians. With more than 10,000 staff and volunteers in 100 plus community locations across Canada, CMHA provides vital services and support to well over half a million Canadians every year. As the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health, CMHA helps people access the community resources they need to build resilience and support recovery from mental illness. HatsON For Canada™ fills the niche for a positive and celebratory approach that acknowledges all Canadians in the fight for mental illness awareness. The campaign engages volunteers and individuals from all walks of life, and particularly focuses on leveraging the power and insight of youth voices to bring about the changes Canadian society needs. HatsON For Canada™ looks forward to a day when every Canadian who is affected by mental illness can share their struggles without shame or judgment and has access to the supports they need. About HatsON For Canada™: HatsON For Canada™ exists to bring awareness to the hardships faced every day by Canadians affected by mental illness. The campaign works to support the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). HatsON For Canada™ is driven by the belief that by encouraging open dialogue about issues relating to mental illness, we as a country can eliminate the stigma that negatively affects so many Canadians and increase the number of people who seek or receive professional help.
